Medshield Medical Scheme – #BackingBongmusa “Lucky 13” Challenge Competition Terms & Conditions

The #BackingBongmusa Lucky 13 Challenge celebrates Comrades legend Bongmusa Mthembu as he chases a record-breaking 13th Comrades Marathon gold medal.

  1. Competition Period

The competition will run from 18 May 2026 12:00AM to 14 June 2026 12:00AM.

Entries received after the closing date will not be considered.

  1. Eligibility

  • The competition is open to South African residents aged 18 years and older.
  • Individuals, running clubs, fitness groups, and social running communities may enter.
  • Employees of Medshield Medical Scheme, associated agencies, partners, sponsors, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

  1. How to Enter

To qualify for entry, participants must:

  • Attempt the Lucky 13 1km challenge inspired by Bongmusa Mthembu’s Comrades Marathon pace.
  • Post a photo or video of their attempt on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or X.
  • Follow @MedshieldSA on the platform used for entry.
  • Tag @MedshieldSA in the post.
  • Use the hashtags:
    • #BackingBongmusa
    • #Lucky13
    • #MedshieldMovement
    • #MedshieldSA

Participants do not need to complete the 1km in 3:40 to qualify.

The competition is based on participation, community spirit, and support for Bongmusa’s Lucky 13 journey.

  1. Prize

  • One winner will receive R5 000 cash.
  • The prize may be awarded to either:
    • an individual participant; or
    • a running club/group participating in the challenge.
  • The winner will be selected randomly from all valid qualifying entries.

  1. Winner Selection

  • The winner will be selected by random draw after the competition closing date.
  • The decision of Medshield Medical Scheme is final and binding.
  • The winner will be contacted via social media direct message.
  • Should the winner not respond within 72 hours, Medshield reserves the right to select an alternative winner.

  1. Content & Marketing Usage

By entering, participants grant Medshield Medical Scheme permission to:

  • repost and share submitted content across Medshield digital and social media platforms;
  • use participant names, club names, social handles, photos, and videos for campaign and promotional purposes related to the #BackingBongmusa campaign.

  1. General

  • Multiple entries are permitted provided each submission is unique.
  • Entries containing inappropriate, offensive, unlawful, or dangerous content may be removed or disqualified.
  • Medshield reserves the right to verify entries and disqualify fraudulent submissions.
  • Medshield reserves the right to amend, postpone, suspend, or cancel the competition at any time without prior notice.
